Quick Vacation Update

Here are a few of our vacation experiences so far.  I will add pictures once we get home.

1.  We saw (sea)lions, and tigers, and bears, oh, my! at the Albuquerque zoo.  OK, we actually didn't see tigers or bears, but we did see a giraffe that was only a few hours old.

2.  We had one of those movie-type moments where someone asks if there is a doctor in the room, only they were asking if there was a pastor in the room--at my cousin's wedding, when the judge was running at least an hour late.  Jon thought he was going to have the rare experience (for him) when he watches a wedding from the chairs, but he got to step up and perform the wedding instead.

3.  We went to a donut shop to start Basia's 8th birthday off right.  There were pretty flavors as far as the eye could see (Jon chose a pumpkin donut and an apple fritter flavored ones).  The birthday girl chose...glazed.

4.  We got to celebrate the rest of Basia's birthday at Grandma's house, where Grandma had decorations, games, prizes, and party favors.

5.  We went to an old-fashioned arcade mall, where Jon got 2nd place overall in Frogger.  I'm pretty sure they must reset the Frogger game each day so that older men can feel super awesome when they play, but Jon is convinced he is the 2nd best Frogger player EVER.  I also learned that I do not want to be the one following Basia around a place with that many things to do.  Her focus is pretty short, and there were SOOOO many things to grab her attention.  I wish I were wearing my pedometer.

6.  We went to a game store, just to look, of course.  Jon pre-spent his blow money for the next month or two to buy three new games.  We played them already and can't wait to host our next family game night.  One of the games, in particular, is quite entertaining.  Just wait until you see the pictures.

7.  I went on a very relaxing walk along a Colorado creek.  It really is one of the best ways to start a day.

8.  We got to hike along a river.  The kids ditched the trail to rock scramble along the river the entire way.  It was slow going, but they loved every minute of it.

9.  Coming back from the hike, we were rear-ended when Jon was driving my mother-in-law's car.  I got to spend some time in urgent care, making sure my neck and back are OK.  I got some pills to get me through the next couple weeks as I heal, but I'm pretty sure I'll be fine even sooner than that.  Everyone else was free from injury.  The car will need some work, but it definitely could have been much worse.

10.  And now we arrive at today's agenda.  After Brishen finishes his online classes, we are taking him on his 13th birthday outing.  We decided that each child will get a special little outing with both parents for their  13th birthday.  We are leaving Basia with Grandma and taking Brishen to a nearby Colorado town.  We'll take him to a movie that we wouldn't let him watch in his pre-teen days.  We'll go out for a nice dinner, spend the night in a hotel, and then take a wine-lunch train ride (no wine for him, of course) through the Royal Gorge.  It will be nice to spend quality time with him as we celebrate this milestone.  Luckily, the actual day is still a whole week-and-a-half away because I'm just not ready.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
