2003--Basia was adopted through a private, infant adoption in the US. We networked without signing with an agency. We had one failed adoption two months before she was born and were ready to step back from the dream of adopting when a Georgia agency accidentally showed our profile to a mom. We were picked, and Basia was born two weeks later. I flew to Atlanta the same day and met her for the first time the next morning. She has been our daughter from that moment forward!
2010--We started the process of a foreign adoption from a small African country. We were part of our agency's pilot program, which meant they were still developing the adoption process with that country. They have yet to place a child for adoption in the year 2014 so...
2011--We decided to become foster/adopt parents while we waited for our foreign adoption to proceed. We were able to pursue both for a while until it seemed things were progressing with both, and we were asked to choose. We knew we would not send away any of the foster children in our home, so the choice was not difficult. I have a practically life-long dream of adopting internationally, but that was not the path God chose for us. Our first foster placement was a family of four little ones in November 2011.
2012--We were placed with three of the children who would later join our family on a permanent basis and one who we adored for a year before she was returned home. We had six kids pretty much from the moment we started fostering. Talk about an adjustment after parenting only two older kids!
2013--We finalized Zade's adoption. He first came to our home as an 18-month-old in March 2012 and was adopted in June 2013 at the age of 2.5.
2013--We had several foster children come and go, especially in the busy month of July when we were licensed as a foster group home (meaning a home with more than 6 children in our state). We were also placed with some kids who we expect to adopt in the next month or two and also the baby brother of Zade.
2014--We celebrated the adoptions of Cassia and Edison. They joined us in May 2012 at the ages of 3 months and 2. They were 2 and 4, 26 months later when we finalized their adoptions.
The year is only half over. We do not plan to take in any more foster placements. We hope to finalize the adoptions of Soren and Tobias soon. We will then remain foster parents to our little guy, Roo, as long as it takes for his case to be complete and then close our home sometime in 2015.
