Jon's officially on vacation. This is big news around here because it is relatively rare. He took the week off after Christmas and had 4 funerals, including the pre-meetings with the families and other related responsibilities. I do not really consider that time off for some reason.
For the next two weeks, though, he is OURS, and we are very excited!
Guess why I am most excited? I am a whiny mom with a first world problem. I am ready for a break from having nannies. Isn't that crazy?! I have someone here to help almost on a daily basis, yet I am ready for a break from the help. I know most people would love to have the sort of help I have, and I am thankful for them and all that they do.
I am just ready to have some days with just us. I am ready for some days of feeling like a normal family.
It has now been over a year since we first became a foster group home. We were required, at that time, to hire caregivers to be here any time Jon was not, so that there would always be two of us around. When we agreed to take baby Roo, we also were agreeing to add a third caregiver. At the time we thought it would only be for a month, but that sort of timing never works out in the foster care world.
It's hard to explain what it is like to have someone outside the family in our home every single day, but it is not my chosen way to live, even though the caregivers are great and are here to help. For the next two weeks, I am going to remember what it feels like to be a regular nanny-free family.
There you have it: Boo, hoo! Poor me! I have to allow nannies to help me with my children. Yes, I fully realize that it is a sickening complaint.
