Memorial Day

We had a fun and busy Memorial Day yesterday. I brought my camera with me everywhere but not the battery to go with it. My dad was kind enough to let me borrow his camera for the last part of the day, so the pictures here were emailed to me from his computer.

We spent the morning doing school and getting ready for the rest of the day. Then we went to the Southern New Mexico Wine Festival, which is run by a friend of mine. For the past several years, I have been delivering ice at the wine festivals, so this was my first time in quite some time to just hang out and enjoy it. Saralyn went with us, and we were all adventurous and tried the green chile wine and two varieties of chocolate wines. I am still quite the "wine wimp" who much prefers the sweets over the dry ones. Someday I hope to become civilized, but don't count on it.

We then went to my parent's house for a cook-out, where much fun was had!. The kids started out in the small pool, splashing, doing stunts, and begging my mom's dogs to get in (it never happened).

That was followed by tether ball competitions. We found that there are some members of the family who are strict with the rules and others who played tether ball for years, never knowing that there were any rules. I must say that the rule-free ones seemed to have a lot more fun (can you guess which group I was in?). I will also say that my dad has an unfair height advantage and that Jon and my mom are in a tough league of their own. They are willing to actually leap into the air to get a ball. I, however, deserve the trophy for my ability to get dirtier than everyone else combined.

Last, but not least by any means, was the delicious cook-out. My mom always goes out of her way to spoil us all rotten with food, and this was no exception. My favorites were the fudge (of course), the homemade ice cream, the awesome grilled veggies, the cream soda (hmm, do you notice a trend with me and the sweet stuff?), the burgers with all the toppings, the beans, and the chips with a large assortment of dips provided by Saralyn--yes, I liked it all! My favorite eating moment was when we prepared a plate of ice cream for my dad, topped with gummy bears, Nerds, and whipped cream. Those who know my dad, know that he's not exactly the Nerds and gummy bears sort of man.

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
