Unbelievable, She is Five!

How could it be that five years ago today I got that long distance phone call that told me we had a new daughter? I got to wake up Jon and Brishen with the news and then called all the other family members. I remember being told how absolutely adorable she was and that she was a favorite of all the nurses. September 11 is a day of mourning for so many, but it is truly a day of joy for us. We do remember, though, that Basia's birthmom is probably sad out there somewhere today, thinking of Basia. I hope she knows that she is not forgotten today or any other day. Basia has asked to invite her to her birthday party, and I really wish that we could.

On to lighter things... THE BIRTHDAY GIRL!!

She had gymnastics earlier in the day, so all her birthday pictures are in her leotard.

She wets! That is just too exciting for a little girl in "that" stage of potty humor.

Her meercat had to try out her Dance, Dance Revolution mat, too.

Basia got to request anything she wanted for her birthday dinner. Her requests, in order, were: salad, peas, bean burrito, and fruit. When we were at the grocery store, she added cucumber to the list. It will be interesting to see how that changes over the years. Brishen thought she was crazy to choose any vegetables, much less three.

Melanie--Your daughter is beautiful. It looks like she had a very happy birthday. We have friends that picked up their new daughter today, and so reading your blog was very sweet on a day when they're experiencing what you experienced five years ago.

It was fun to see Jeanne and Tyler's kids on your blog!

I hope your mom is doing better (I don't know what's happening, but read that she was in the hospital). I'll keep her in my prayers!

Is it weird to have some stranger reading your blog? Hopefully Jeanne will vouch for me--that I'm not crazy--I just enjoy reading about your family, and about your schooling. Our blog is greggfamilycolorado.blogspot.com in case you want to check us out and determine my sanity level for yourself! :)

I don't really consider you a stranger, Lindy, since Jon knows you and all his family knows you. Plus I know your parents and brother and have heard about you and your little ones for years.

Even if you were a stranger, I wouldn't mind you reading the blogs. The fun of writing a blog is having people read them!

That is really neat about your friend. Meeting your new child for the first time is such an amazing experience!

My mom is finally home from the hospital and starting to recover.

Thanks so much for your blog address. You can bet that I will be reading it regularly!!

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
