As of yesterday morning, I was certain that fall is arriving in our desert town. I went for my normal early morning walk, wearing my normal shorts and t-shirt. When I returned, my hands were in pain from the cold, so I did my best to spread the chill to the other members of my family by placing my hands on their warm backs. I wore sweats on my walk today. I felt better, and my family appreciated being left alone.
Another reason I'm pretty sure that fall is in the air is because my menu for the next 10 days calls for soup 3 times! I'm making a new minestrone recipe one day. I'm trying a new pumpkin soup recipe on the day we go to the pumpkin patch. I'm also making a white bean/(fake) sausage soup that I haven't made in months. I just feel like eating some soup, I guess.
Finally, I can tell that the colder temperatures are here because I am getting back into the mood for hot tea in the mornings. I've had several cups in the last week after taking most of the summer off.
Now, just in case there are those of you in other parts of the country reading this blog, please understand that our "colder" temperatures have meant mid-80s for daily highs and low 50s for morning lows. My hands would swear that it was in the 40s yesterday morning, though. I don't know what I would do if our lows ever reached the zero mark. I'll take our kind of cold any day!
