In Her Element

Our homeschool group went to an event at the Space Hall of Fame in Alamogordo today. Basia set out her astronaut costume last night so she wouldn't forget to wear it when I woke her up at 6am this morning. She even wore the helmet for the entire 1-hour drive to Alamogordo.
The kids got to watch a show about the planets at the IMAX planetarium. They got to make air rockets. They spent a really long time in the museum itself. Basia felt right at home among all the rockets. Without a doubt, she was most amazed to be in the presence of pictures and artifacts from a real space chimp. She just stared and stared at the display of Ham's picture, outfit, and space pod.
The event was for kids in 3rd grade or older, but I don't think many of the older kids could match her enthusiasm for the topic of the day. Not a one of them dressed like an astronaut.

That is just too cute! I always wanted to be an astronaut, but since I grew a little too tall, I'm counting on Basia to make it into outer space so I can live vicariously through her. . .
