Jon's Handwriting

Sorry, Jon, but I thought this was too funny not to post. Jon has horrible handwriting. He'd be the first to admit it. A couple months ago, I started a new handwriting program with Basia, Peterson Directed Handwriting. Basically, it gives little chants to go along with each letter. There are just a few basic strokes that make up most of the letters.

For example, a lower case "a" is "hook around, small down." Many letters have that "hook around" as part of them "e, o, o, c, d, g, q." The lower-case "b" is "tall down, roll around." The "roll around" is the partial circle going the opposite direction as "hook around." It has really worked wonders for Basia's handwriting. She is no longer writing the "s" in her name backwards, and all her letters are looking neater.

I explained to Jon that I read a review of a homeschool mom who also had great results and who was hoping her husband would try out the methods. They even have books specifically for adults. I told Jon that I could tell that even my printing was much better when I used their methods instead of my own. He looked through the notes on what strokes to use to make up each letter.

He told me last night that he attempted the method when he recently wrote on a white board at church. His writing was so neat that someone asked him who wrote on the board for him! People noticed how much better his writing was immediately. Now we just need to pass out these kindergarten writing books to doctors and lawyers everywhere!
