National Cathedral and the James River

Basia's sitting in the Children's Chapel in the National Cathedral. Everything was just her size. We ended up sitting through some of a service while we were there, just so we could say we experienced worship in such a beautiful place.

We walked along the canal in Richmond, VA, and made it to the historic James River. There was a memorial statue along the canal dedicated to the slaves who worked so hard along the river and building the canal. Basia looked at the figure in the boat and declared that it was her dad. She doesn't know about her birth dad, so it was neat that she understood in her own way that she had a connection to him. Basia learned about slavery for the first time on our trip, since there were many exhibits in the Smithsonians relating to it. I told her a bit about it, but I didn't think she heard or understood until she later explained it all to Jon.
