Labor Day Campout

Jon was invited to preach at a Labor Day Campout in the Gila for a nearby church. We all got to go along. It was the longest camping trip we have taken as a family, and it was such a great experience.

What can I say about Basia on this trip? We hardly saw her. She became a member of the camping community that was gathered and not so much a member of our family. One of the youth brought her new puppy. Basia was with the youth and holding the puppy as often as possible. It physically pained her to hand him over to the rightful owners. Basia also helped various people cook and was a "help" to many people in many ways. We were told that, even if we can't make it again next year, that we are to send Basia.

This was the moment I have been waiting for for almost 11 years. My son is finally old enough to pass a volleyball back and forth with some skill and precision. It was a great moment! Jon tried to join us, but he didn't have quite the aim that Brishen had.

Jon preached six sermons in four days. None of us will ever view the book of Jonah the same again.

We got the chance to hike around Lake Roberts. We saw a snake, a tadpole bigger than I had ever dreamed existed, a bat, and lots of frogs and bullfrogs.

I just can't get over the hospitality we were shown by the people of First UMC in Deming. We camped for four days, and we did not have to fix ourselves a single meal. We also were shown extreme kindness by the musicians, who found stuff in their camper they no longer need for camping and passed on to us to encourage us to take our kids camping more often. We left feeling truly loved.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
