Their Check-Ups

I'm pleased to say that both Brishen and Basia made it a full year between check-ups without needing to see their doctor. I'm sad to say that they switched doctors on us sometime during that year without ever telling us that our beloved Dr. Torres was gone. Hmm.

Yesterday was the big day for check-ups. Brishen remembered from a year ago just how many shots he was to be getting yesterday. Now he's all caught up forever except for TB boosters every 10 years and flu shots, if we decide to get them. He has crossed the 5 foot point and remains around the 90th percentile for height and the 50th for weight. His asthma that caused so many problems for years is likely completely gone at this point. His spine is straight. His vision is 20/20. His ears are working, even if he doesn't always listen.

Basia didn't have to get any shots or even have to pee in a cup, even though I made her drink tons of water before we went. She did great on the eye test and was borderline on the hearing test, when last year she failed the vision (but later passed a more comprehensive test just fine) and passed the hearing. The doctor says it is more about age, and that her hearing is likely fine and doesn't need further testing at this point. She is now below the 25th percentile for both height and weight (44 inches and 40 pounds). She will always be my shorty. Luckily she has Aunt Saralyn to commiserate with. We are getting a referral for some testing of her fine motor skills and speech, just because I don't want years to go by and someday be told that I should have done something much sooner. She may be fine, but I want to know for sure. Her spine is straight. She can balance on one foot forever. She was scared to be there, for fear of a shot or another unknown. At least we have passed the days of outright screaming from the moment we walk in the doors until it's time to leave.

Jon went with us yesterday, and we realized it was the first time he went with us in all 11 years of Brishen's life and all 6 of Basia's. I only brought him along this time in case I had to get into gory details about why I wanted Basia tested and didn't want her to hear what I was saying. Basia used his arms as a shelter as she watched Brishen get checked out, so it was good he came, if not for the reason originally intended.

Here's to another full year without sick kids!

So good to hear that they are doing good even though we know they are fine, it is good to hear. You will have one giant and one very petite sweetie.

We don't even go six months without somewone needing a doctor (but it's usually due to Trevor having an allergic reaction to some sort of bug, or stitches!). Good job. It's always nice to hear that they're healthy. They looked great to me!

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
