We left to spend time with Grandma and the Taskeruds on the 27th in Colorado. We went to their beautiful zoo yesterday, where the baby gorilla and orangutan were favorites. We also got to see very active wolves, a huge moose, wallabies, a cool porcupine (who wouldn't stop staring at Jon), and grizzly bears.
We got lucky and were there near feeding time. A zookeeper got a gibbon to do all sorts of tricks for his fruit. We also got to see the hippos being fed their dinner. I saw them put a huge bunch of carrots right in their mouths. It was quite a process for the hippo to chew them up and swallow. It was very interesting. The only trouble with a zoo way up on a mountain in Colorado Springs in December is the temperature below 30 degrees!
They offered to take us hiking today, but I don't know that I'm tough enough for December hiking here. I said that they could drop me off at a bookstore.
