Pictures from Day 1

Here's Jon standing in the place where Jesus is thought to have almost been pushed over The Precipice by the large crowd. We were overlooking the Jezreel Valley. It's really neat to have a picture in my head of all these Biblical places and events. When I read about something that happened in the Jezreel Valley, I now know what it looks like!
Here's the hippodrome, where races were held, in Caesarea. I've read about them in history books, and now I have seen one. I tried to get Jon to race another pastor while there, but it was a little hot for racing.

The above picture shows some ruins of Greek columns in Caesarea. I showed the red hot poker flowers because my grandmother always loved them, and we saw them all over Israel.

Caesarea--an ancient city on the Sea, built by Herod (our guide always called him Herod the Crazy) to make a Roman city.

Peter converted Cornelius here which was the first inclusion of a Gentile in the church, and Christianity then spread across the Mediterranean Sea and was able to reach the rest of the world--us!

This is a Crusader wall, complete with a moat. It's crazy to read about these things for so long and then actually see the real thing from way back then.

We climbed down and up a lot of stairs to get to this big tunnel that once contained the water works of Megiddo. It was all hand carved by slaves. Todd is another clergy member who was also on the trip.

This is an ancient sacrifice altar in Megiddo. Animals were burned on this altar.

The beautiful Mediterranean Sea. I found some shells for the kids and some ancient pottery that they let you take since it is so abundant. I also did some wading so that I could say that I've been IN the Mediterranean Sea. The water was cold, but not as cold as I expected. The weather while we were in Israel was absolutely perfect. It was getting into the 80s the last few days of our trip.

This is a view of Nazareth, Jesus' childhood home, from atop the Precipice.

Here's Jon in Caesarea, standing in the room where Paul pled his case.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
