We were told to be on base for the Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon by 4:30am. The ceremony began at 6:30, and the race began at 7am. That meant a lot of time out in the freezing cold (sub 30 degrees). We bundled up and left layers of clothing along the way for them to donate to a charity. I left pants, a sweatshirt, and two pairs of gloves at different points. I later had to borrow a sweatshirt from Abby because I got cold again. In these pictures you will see James and Abby, good friends of ours from church plus James' sister, Brandy. We were Team Morning Star. As a team, you have to stick together and finish within 20 seconds of each other.
We decided to take pictures at the even numbered mile markers, and here they are:
We skipped a picture at mile number 12 to go for the mid-point at mile 13 (above). Oh, and that guy in the background is a random stranger that wanted to charge us five bucks to be shown in our picture. Since mile 13 isn't the exact midpoint, we decided to pick a guessed midpoint .1 miles further on (below).
I cannot tell you how long that last mile was, so we were very glad to get to the marker for 26 miles, even though we still had .2 miles to go. Below you can see us victorious after finishing the whole marathon. We linked arms to cross the finish line and even skipped a bit.
Here is the sweet sign that was waiting for Jon and I when we went to pick up our kids. It was a great surprise after our long day!

Awesome job!! Very proud of you! Fun to see the mountains in the background, and I loved your creative numbered pictures along the way.Hope you ate lots of pasta last night, and perhaps a little chocolate, too!
So, so cool! Wish I could have joined you! Not sad I'm missing the pain you are probably in today. :) My time will come. . .
