Frustrating

It's tough when a really good dyslexic reading program is made more difficult by speech and fine motor skills issues. Basia gets the concepts being taught but still has major issues.

When a word has both the "f" and "th" sound, it is torture because of speech issues. She has to really concentrate to say the "th" correctly and then to switch right back to an "f" sound in the same word is really, really tough.

The program also has her spell out all the sounds of a word by lifting a finger on her left hand, starting with the thumb, for each sound she hears in the word. She then remembers what sound went with each raised finger and writes it down or spells it with tiles. If she starts with her thumb, there is no way she can get her forth finger up without lifting the fifth. She loses her focus on the word when she has to figure out how to raise that finger. It is really frustrating to me, and I can only imagine how she feels.

I really thought she was doing so much better in her speech and fine motor skills, but now I'm wondering if I should get her evaluated after all.
