I Kept Walking

Whew! I just finished a walking challenge through our health insurance's pedometer program. It started on April 19 and finished yesterday. In that time, I walked 696,647 steps. I challenged myself to walk at least 20,000 steps each and every day of the challenge. That turned out to be harder than training for a marathon because my body never got a low day or day off. I walked at least 22,000 steps (11 miles) most days and logged in a few days at 30,000 steps. I was physically exhausted many times in a way that I have never before felt (it's not like I don't have a few other things going on right now, too--yes, I'm crazy).

In the end, I was the top competitor in the New Mexico Conference. When you walk for a sport, you just don't get to be a "winner" very often, so it is nice to know that there are many out there who saw my name on the top of that list much of the last month and then as the final top walker. Most were not trying to beat me, since the actual challenge only asked us to average 7,000 steps a day. That means I won a competition that very few were even trying to win, but I'll take what I can get.

Way to go. This is amazing when you have so many other things going on. I also know that walking can be very peaceful and take you away from all the busyness.

Brishen's Birthday, Too
