6th grade is that year when the big division between elementary school and middle school happens. That summer before school starts is the last summer that you can participate in things like Vacation Bible School and various other camps geared toward elementary students. It seems a little sad, however it also seems pretty obvious that it is time to move on.
Here's an example. Brishen and Basia went to VBS at our new church along with 350-some other kids. Out of ALL of those kids, Brishen was the very tallest. Yep, 359 kids shorter than he is. When they performed their songs at Family Night and then again for three of the worship services last Sunday, Brishen looked (I'm sorry to say it) ridiculous up on stage with all of the other kids. There were cute little 3 and 4-year-olds. There were sweet little kindergartners and first graders. There were even some tough-looking 5th and 6th grade boys. Then there was Brishen, his big head sticking way up above every other child's.
He had a good run. His early childhood was great. It's just time to move on. Whether his mom is ready for it or not.
