First Grade Begins!

Here are our plans for Basia's first grade studies:

Math-continue with Math U See Alpha and supplement with Singapore, Miquon, and various tricks
Grammar-First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind
Reading and Spelling-Barton, currently in Level 3, Explode the Code, Spelling Workout (possibly)
Memory Work-Egyptian Pharaohs, 20 Roman Leaders, several poems, a couple prayers
Writing-Writing With Ease
Handwriting-Handwriting Without Tears
History-Story of the World: Ancient Times plus activity book
Science-Noeo Biology I
Read Alouds-Myths from ancient times, various Sonlight recommendations, lots of books on CD
Art-Child's Book of Art and an art class outside the home
Music-music history, starting with classical, different focus each month
Spanish-Rosetta Stone as she's able
Computer-Typing games

Basia's mornings will start with these flip-cards to make sure she remembers what all needs to be done before school starts.

These are her "workboxes."  She will start with drawer number 1 and work her way through the drawers.  As each drawer is finished, she will remove that number so she can see what is left to do.  This worked really well for her last year.  I am not writing out a complete schedule for her.  I will have her work through the drawers until it seems like she needs a break.  She will then have outside time, craft time, or snack time for a while until she's ready to go on to the next drawer.  She will also have an hour in her bed after lunch and outside time each afternoon.  She will read to herself, listen to books on CD, or nap.
