Basia has become obsessed (seriously) with crafting. You have never seen so many little scraps of paper, stapled and glued this-es and thats, pipe cleaner creations, drawings, and messes in your life. She sees a piece of paper, gets an idea in her head, and makes something big or small. I really have no idea where she gets the ideas for what she makes. This set of arrows in a quiver along with a bow is a perfect example. She did it 100% on her own (OK, my math is off because Brishen helped her with the spelling).
Our new homeschool group (it's not just new to us, it really is a brand new group) had its first field trip. We got to go to Double Dave's and make pizzas.
We took a short family hike in the Franklins. One day we will remember to bring water so we can really hike up into the mountains. It's pretty fun to be less than two miles from these hiking trails.
Basia made FOUR goals in her second soccer game. This league doesn't keep score, but someone may have noticed that there were a total of four goals scored by her team and only two scored by the other team--not that anyone was counting, of course. It was quite a sight, and I hope to have the image of her leaping with excitement in my brain forever more. She was really more interested in the fact that a boy hit his head during the game and had to have an ice pack than in her own scoring, though.
I tried out a new hairstyle on Basia. This is not that exciting or that complicated of a style, but it is a part of our week.
We are still going strong with our bigger morning meals. Today Jon (after I forced him out of bed and told him he was helping!) got in on the act by making his cinnamon and sugar toast log cabins. I believe it is something his own father would make for him.
Parts of our week that were not photographed:
1. We said goodbye to Grandma after a wonderful visit.
2. We did 4 days of school (Monday off when Grandma was still here).
3. I became the head coach of the 4th/5th grade volleyball team when the other coach stepped down.
4. I coached volleyball 4 nights.
5. Someone was in Tae Kwon Do most nights of the week.
6. We had homeschool park day on Wednesday, where I got to hold a teeny tiny baby when she was awake and also while she slept. You just can't beat that!
7. Basia had an art class where she made a cool mask.
8. Brishen had computer class where he sorted Lego guys (again). I'm not too sure that I will be paying for that class again.
9. I went to a boot camp type of workout at church. It was not at all enjoyable (I thought I might actually die), and I was so, so, so sore for days after it. My legs were just fine, but my upper body did not fare so well. I hope I never see another jump rope again. The big question is: can I force myself to go again on Thursday?
10. Brishen and Basia got to spend the night with their Aunt Saralyn and cousin Camden.
11. Jon and I went to a St. Mark's School fundraiser dinner and auction where someone bid $4000 to have a front row seat to the children's Christmas program. I do not think I have ever been in a room with that much money before.
12. Brishen got to show a black belt what that black belt forgot in his TKD form.
13. I decided to skip church on Saturday night and get a few things done at home: make 3 loaves of bread, make tortillas, make pumpkin muffins, and make a batch of seitan. I should have gone to church.
14. We got to go to the contemporary service on Sunday because Jon was the preacher for ALL the services. I miss contemporary music!
15. We spent Sunday afternoon with my parents, where we ate good food, played Legos and Blockus, watched some football, read the newspaper, and otherwise enjoyed each other.
