Happy Homeschool Anniversary To Us

It was six years ago this week that I took Brishen out of public school kindergarten to start homeschooling.  At the time it was only going to last the remainder of that year.  I still remember that first day.  Brishen got up early and was so eager to get started on his math.  Guess what?  Brishen still gets up and gets started on his math right away.

It has truly been a great six years.

I love this lifestyle, and there is no doubt that homeschooling is a lifestyle.  Our schedule is our own.  The pace of our life is slower, and we are together for these few years we can be together.  I love what I do, and I love what it does for my children.  For us right now, homeschooling is a beautiful thing.

*Please note, I'm not a anti-school meanie.  I know that this is right FOR US.  I know very well that there are parts of my personality, the personalities of my children, and the learning styles and challenges of my children, that make this right FOR US.  Is homeschooling perfect?  Nope.  Am I a perfect homeschooler?  Heck, no.  Does my youngest wish that she could hang out with other kids all day?  Yep.  Does she want to hang out with them at school.  No.  Do I ever wish someone else was responsible for making sure my children learn everything there is to k now?  Of course.  Do I ever get sick of my kids and wish some bright, yellow bus would pick them up early each morning and bring them back later that afternoon?  Yes, indeed.  Does that feeling ever last?  Thankfully it does not, or we wouldn't be here 6 years later.  Will I homeschool forever?  I plan to homeschool each child through high school, but I know each child has unique needs, and we will address those needs in the best way possible for each child and for each stage of their lives--so, who knows?  Do I think you should homeschool your children?  Probably not (it's certainly not for everyone), but I'm happy to tell you about it if it is something you really want to do!!

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
