Be aware that these are interesting to me. I am easily amused, entertained, and inspired. Spotting views of interest is a great way to spend 4 billion hours of walking.
There were 6400 marchers this year, which is their biggest crowd ever (as they say every year). There were bound to be some interesting folks in the bunch. The majority of people wore matching army uniforms, but there were plenty of average folk, too. Above, you can see the guy in a kilt.
A guy with a box.
There's a man getting ready to march with a guide dog and no legs. Impressive!
You've heard of beach volleyball. This event has some portions of beach-like conditions without the gorgeous water.
There were many amputees doing the march. They announced that there were some from the wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Iraq. I got to have a nice chat with Brishen about the choice they each made to make the most of their life, as it turned out, instead of allowing a really bad event to defeat them.
Three men peeing behind a bush--a very common sight. Of course, they quite often "forget" to find a bush.
A huge number of marchers everywhere you look.
Here's a man who carried his picnic lunch in a Walmart bag for a marathon. I saw backpacks everywhere but only one Walmart bag.
Here's a man running the opposite direction as we were marching. We were nearing mile 10, and he had already finished 20.
Someone decided to do a marathon, in rough and varied terrain, barefoot!
I'm sorry if this amuses me and not others, but I have certain standards and beliefs. I do not think men (I'm even iffy about women over the age of 6) should get together and pick out matching outfits. And yes, they are considered outfits if there are neckerchiefs, shorts, spandex for under the shorts, hats, AND water belts that are all identical. This was not a military unit who was issued a uniform. This was a running group. Snazzy, I tell you.
We all finally made it to mile 20, and there was still a huge group of people all around us.
I just love the Organ Mountains.
This is the sight we found when we got back to my mom's house. They were making us beautiful banners. We just finished a little more quickly than they expected.
