Spring Faith Family Fling (or something like that)

I could never get the name quite right, but our church had an Easter festival today, and it was a big one!  The Easter Bunny himself paid a visit.

The kids got to fill bags with goodies, only the goodies weren't for them.  The bags will be taken to Houchen Community Center and given to children there.

The Easter Bunny (or possibly his helpers from the youth group) hid eggs for all to find, as long as they each only found 10.  Basia found her 10 eggs in exactly 5 seconds.  She took off running and was back before I had a chance to think about chasing her for a picture.  I didn't know she could count to ten that quickly, much less find eggs AND count them.  I'm told that the extreme lack of bushes caused there to be few really tricky hiding spots.  She didn't seem to mind.  She was happy to get a pirate eye patch in one egg.

This is not the pirate eye patch but a unicorn.  The face painter was pretty amazing, even though I didn't get a picture at an angle where you can actually tell what it is.

Yep, they had one of these, too.  Brishen did some high leaps and a few flips.  Basia was not her usual dare-devil self.  She sort of jumped a bit.  I considered trying it but felt sick to my stomach just watching Brishen flip.  Jon considered trying it but didn't want to push the little children in line out of his way.

This was a cool obstacle course.  Basia and Brishen first raced.  Basia beat Brishen easily.  Brishen then challenged his dad.  Can you guess the outcome?

Is Jon in the lead or is Brishen already so far gone that he's out of sight by the time Jon gets over the first hill?

Is this Brishen up ahead with Jon nowhere to be seen or is Jon up front somewhere?

Is this a display of speed and skill or is it an aging man's desperate attempt to make it through the next obstacle while sadly falling short way before he reaches the hole?

Ah, the photo finish!  Only, Brishen had already gone to get his lunch by the time Jon came through the last hole.  That's right, folks, girl beats boy and boy beats man.  Mom stays neutral at all times, and no one dares challenge her.

Jon and the bunny, palling around.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
