Camping Trip '11!

Moments To Remember:

1.  Structural Stability Lessons

Basia got to work building her teepee right away.  The big, bad wolf (AKA a gust of wind) knocked it over on her in  one huff.

 2.  Tenting It

There was no cursing at all involved in setting up the tents this year!  That is momentous.  The big tent is for sleeping, and the little tent is the "play tent".  Can I just say that Jon and I are just about old enough to be ready for an air mattress for our tent.  There was quite a bit of morning moaning going on when it was time to rise off of our bed of rocks disguised by a thin sleeping bag.

3.  Posing for Pictures

4.  Animal Sightings

5.  Beautiful Views

6. Scrambling Around by the River (Disclaimer: only in NM is this considered a river)

They launched bark boats.  Eventually this little ponding area was quite full of their boats.  I made them remove them when the were done.  You can see Basia's attempts at boat removal two pictures down.  I'll let you guess whether or not her feet stayed dry.

I don't know if you can see them, but there's a steady line of rock scramblers.  The kids could have done this forever.  They would stop to admire the water bugs, "fish" with their sticks, and climb bigger, more dangerous rocks along the banks when possible.

7. Creative Cooking

Here's Basia's "imagery" campfire.  Unfortunately, we found out when we got to the campground that imaginary campfires were all we could have because of the extremely dry conditions of the area.  We had planned for a weekend of campfire cooking, so we had to get a little creative.  Luckily, the Andersons had a little propane stove, and we had a propane grill.  Pretty Easter bonnets added to the charm.

Yep, we figured out a way to make smores.  We learned some lessons along the way, too.  For example, burnt graham crackers do not taste good!  We were also very thankful for foil!!

8.  Thanks for hangin' with me for all the pics!

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
