When Basia found out her baby cousin was getting her ears pierced, she decided that she was ready to get hers done, too. I was shocked because she has never shown any interest at all. Pain is not her thing. Today was the big day. There were a few tears, but I was impressed with how well she did. She had to get each ear done separately, so I was pretty certain that we would leave with only one ear pierced. She was a trooper and stayed still for earring number 2. She can't wait to see how long it takes her dad to notice her new look.
In other news, here's how our day unfolded:
7am: Basia went to a friend's house since the two males in the family are at camp and mom had business
8am: I was standing in line to get my fingerprints done for our adoption. Let's just say that people were very likely wondering why that white lady was standing in line at the immigration office. I stood out a bit.
9am: Reading camp, day 12 of 19, for Basia and I.
12pm: to the mall for lunch at the food court and then to get permanent holes put in the ears of my little girl (Basia could have watched people and mall goings-on for hours--it made me realize how little I take her out as a no-longer-consumerism-crazed mom. She was impressed by all that could be seen at a mall.)
1:55pm: Mr. Popper's Penguins for two. Again, this was out of our norm. I splurged. She really only goes to movies when her aunt takes her or when there are the free summer flicks in Las Cruces. It was a lot of fun, even though the movie is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like the beloved book. I'm learning that I need to make sure that I'm not just Mrs. Teacher/chore assigner/often-a-bit-of-a-grump mom. I don't regret spending my "allowance" on an afternoon of fun with my girl.
4pm: Hobby Lobby to search for dinosaur stickers for a boy I am tutoring at reading camp who loves, loves dinosaurs. I know he will be excited tomorrow. I also want to buy him every dinosaur book I can find, but I am going to try to be reasonable.
4:30pm: Walgreens for cotton balls for our thrice-daily ear-cleaning sessions.
5pm: something that doesn't really pass for dinner when the guys are around or when we haven't just had movie popcorn, but we two gals are happy.
5:30pm: A quick wash of Basia's hair, followed by a very simple style that probably will look horrible by morning, if not much sooner.
7pm: Blog (all the following entries are future events and speculations)
7:15pm: Off to Tae Kwon Do for Basia. I'll bring some lesson planning with me and pretend that I will work on it. If a certain mom friend is there, I'll talk instead. If a certain mom friend is not there, I will do word searches on my phone while leaving the lesson plans for homework.
8:30pm: Basia gets to bed. I turn the TV on to something stimulating and highly educational from the Food Network. I then fall asleep and miss the exciting ending results of said show. The lesson planning books sit beside me on the couch where they get an occasional thought and maybe even an entry or two between snores.
Sometime Later: I decide it is technically an acceptable time for me to go to bed after having already napped for hours. The bed will be missing one husband, so I will spread out snow angel style and tune out the yapping battles between the coyotes in the desert and the neighbor dog for a few hours before we start another fun and busy day.

Jenacy's been saying she wants earrings for her b-day in a couple weeks. I'm afraid of the same thing--going in and coming out with only 1 ear pierced lol!
