1. I hosted bread making class for homeschool moms. My kids didn't let me actually sit and listen, but I did enjoy the yummy bread.
2. We celebrated our 16th anniversary with Bourne and Red Lobster while my parents watched ALL the kids! Yes, I love Bourne movies. No, I do not love Red Lobster, but I was being a nice wife!
3. Brishen participated in Youth Week. I love that our church does Youth Week with tons of service projects. They did projects around the church (planting trees, etc.), worked at the Humane Society, picked veggies at a farm for those in need, and other things I've already forgotten. They also had fun bowling and eating pizza pretty much every day.
4. I worked on a 4-week menu plan for all three daily meals and 2 daily snacks. I then made a master grocery list for each week. Then I compiled a monthly grocery list of all non-perishables and perishables that last a month. I then cleaned out a closet near my kitchen. Two Costco trips, a grocery store trip, and a health food store trip later, we had about a bazillion groceries to get us through the month and then some with only short shopping trips needed each week for perishables. We're on the menu for week 3 right now, and I'm loving being able to look at the menu at snack time and know that no further thought is necessary.
OK, so maybe I'm not quite this prepared...
5. Along with the monthly menu, we started doing Saturday brunches and bigger Sunday dinners. We all gather in our formal dining room and eat as a whole family at one table at least those two times each week. It has been quite nice!
OK, maybe not this formal...
6. The kids had a taekwondo tournament and did quite well. I love getting to spend the whole day watching the sport. It was a bit trickier this year with 4 extra little ones, but we survived.
7. We got to hang out with my now South Carolinian sister a couple days before she moved away for good.
9. Our homeschool co-op started meeting again after a summer break. This year we have been meeting at our house once a week. It gets pretty crazy around here for those two hours each Wednesday! Imagine my surprise when one of our four social workers showed up for a surprise visit during one such co-op. We had a house packed with people waiting for me to teach art (don't laugh), and I had to find a quiet(er) place to go through our monthly questions and reports.
10. We started Basia's official 3rd grade year. Day one went really, really well. Days 2, 3, and 4 were so busy on the fostering front that I was left wondering if it would really be possible for me to get a week's worth of teaching in at all. Luckily some extra work on Friday got us all caught up. We will work pretty hard on Mondays and Fridays, squeeze a few subjects in on the other three days, carry portable work with us when we have appointments, and do whatever is left on the weekends. Is it normal or perfect? Nope. The 3rd grader reports that she loves her new school year, so I'm thinking this is all going to work.
11. We agreed to be the adoptive placement for one of our little guys!
Still ahead in the last four days of the month:
1. 4 family visits for foster kids
2. 1 visit to my mom's house
3. 2 taekwondo classes
4. a taekwondo belt test where my two test for their red belts (last belt below black)
5. farm field trip
6. two dentist appointments
7. one last social worker visit
8. orientation for Brishen's online classes
9. sleep over with cousins
Looking ahead to September, I'm noticing a theme:
BIRTHDAYS!!
Yes, four of the eight people in our family have September birthdays, starting with the very first day of the month. There will be cake and cake and cake and cake, a present or two, and a variety of celebration styles. It is sure to be a fun month.http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?
