1. Empire State Building
2. Rockefeller Center
3. Radio City Music Hall
4. Central Park (the park is HUGE, so we hope to see more of it)
5. Broadway--we actually are staying a few steps from Broadway!
6. We saw The Lion King on Broadway. Oh, my, goodness, was it amazing! The way they did the costuming was so creative and gorgeous. The actors were so very good, too. Timon was so good!
7. The NYC subway--we rode it and then couldn't figure out quite how to ride it again to get back where we were. It would take me quite a while to get this system figured out!
8. We walked quite a bit along 5th Avenue, which is the home to all those fancy stores that we cannot afford to enter, but we did get to see them. Brishen thought it was much more important that we got to go to the Lego store near Rockefeller Center. They have sets there that he has never seen before. These are sets that costs hundreds of dollars, so he will probably never see them again.
9. St. Patrick's Cathedral
Before I get to the pictures I DID take, let me take a moment to mourn the pictures I did NOT take. I somehow got away on Day 2 without my camera. We were in line at the Empire State Building, and my camera was nowhere to be found. Sheesh! I got a few on my phone, but who knows when I will get around to figuring out how to get them off my phone. The pictures you'll see are from later in the day.
Our hotel was walking distance to so many great places, so we walked and walked and walked and walked. and were able to see so much!
The skating rink at Rockefeller Center and one of the buildings
We couldn't miss the Lego store in Rockefeller Center. Legos as far as the eye can see.
Lego's version of Rockefeller Center
Saks Fifth Avenue. It's on Fifth Avenue. Who knew? We saw all the designer fancy stores, but we remained window shoppers. I was pretty sure that Tiffany didn't want me inside.
St. Patrick's Cathedral is going through major renovations on both the inside and out, so some of the beauty was masked by scaffolding. There was still plenty to see and enjoy. It did remind me of some of the churches we saw in Israel.
We saw ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and others.
Radio City Music Hall (don't you like how I label things you can see perfectly well on your own?)
Our first view of Central Park. It is beyond huge. On a different day, we took a subway from one side of Central Park, past three subway stops, and were still only 2/3 of the way to the other end. The side near Times Square is really busy and full of people trying to sell you carriage rides and bike rides. The part near the Guggenheim that we saw on another day was so much more quiet and peaceful. I'm sure you could get lost for days inside this park.
The sights inside of Central Park are amusing. We saw several couples taking their formal wedding pictures. We saw the couple above get engaged. We saw Big Bird himself carrying poor Elmo by the neck.
My kids are fans of Madagascar, the movie, so this was a must see.
Broadway, here we come! They do not permit pictures inside the theater at all, so you can only see Brishen going in and going out. It definitely whet my appetite for more theater. I would love to see more of the shows and will try harder to see some local shows, too. The Lion King on Broadway was fabulous.
Yes, we decided that New York Cheesecake was just the thing to eat after a Broadway play.
