Vacation 2014: Days 5 and 6

Yesterday was the loveliest of days in that it was a perfect staycation kind of day.  We spent the morning with my mom, but I didn't get any pictures that I can actually show.  "Gram-duller" was rushed to see all the bedrooms, told all the latest happenings, and begged to read and play and color.  My kids can be a little overwhelming when every single one of them excitedly talks at once.

At noon, we had two caregivers come watch the little kids.  Jon, Basia, and I headed out for lunch at Basia's favorite place:

We then parted ways.  Jon went off to some horrid (to me) sci-fi movie all by himself, which was a great, rare treat for him.  Basia and I went aaaaaalllll the way across town to El Paso's only skating rink.  I could take her more often if it weren't so far away, but as it is, we haven't been in a couple years.  We both skated for a couple hours until Jon's movie was done.  I would like to point out that Basia is a super athlete.  She is great at skating and fast, of course, but only one of us can skate backwards.  That's right, there is one thing in the world that I can do that she cannot!

We then met back up for some anniversary present shopping and then dinner out.  We bought ourselves a really cool chair for our anniversary.  Unfortunately the chair has grey tones instead of tan.  I've wanted to paint my living room grey forever, anyway, so now Jon agrees with me and is painting as we speak.  That really is a great anniversary gift--a chair and a painted room!  Of course, I now dislike my couch... (if you give a mouse a cookie could be rewritten as "if you give a wife a chair").

Today was also a nice day, but the stay-home-and-wear-pajamas-all-day-kind of nice.  That is extra nice for us because I don't like to be in pajamas when caregivers come, so I get dressed every day.  A pajama day was a treat.  I did lots of laundry, watched Miss Potter on Netflix, and enjoyed the morning rain and jazz music in the background.  The kids played amazingly well today.  They were very immersed in their own world of make-believe family where they each have their role which happens to coincide with roles in our regular family.  There's a mom, dad, Basia, and Brishen.  It can get a little confusing, but they enjoy every minute of it.  They quite frankly are never ever mean to each other when they play that game, so it's my favorite.

Now I am off to help Jon de-tan my living room!

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
