Converting

No, the preacher's wife is not actually converting.  I just have to laugh that I am being immersed into a different religious culture right now, and it is surprisingly interesting to me.   For a variety of reasons (mostly having to do with me not feeling up to leading homeschool co-ops and groups this year and Timber moving away--boo-hoo), I decided to join the Catholic homeschool group.

I have now attended my first rosary service.  It was a homeschool event, and there were kids all over the place.  It amazed me how much more peaceful and quiet it got as the rosary continued.  I like peace.

The last two books I read were memoirs by Catholic women and were both quite interesting. The second piqued my interest in some of the women saints, and the history buff in me wants to do more reading.

The teen group is attending a Latin mass with discussion after about Latin Mass.  It makes me wish I were a teen.  I helped Brishen with his basic Latin for years, and we studied so much about Rome that I would love to attend a Latin mass.

I would love to start my mornings with a brief worship service as is done most often in Catholic churches.  I would love to start each day with a ritual moment of centering, and my living room doesn't always cut it for me.  (They do keep it dark in morning mass so no one can see my jammies and crazy lady hair, right??  They'd have to have the service at 4:38am before Roo wakes up, too.  Hmm. Maybe I should stick with my living room.)  I love Shane Claiborne's Book of Common Prayer, but it would be more meaningful to do with a group of people, as I envision Shane doing it.

So, I'm still a good ol' Methodist, but I'm learning and my mind is expanding to better understand some roots that are common to us all.  This homeschool group is so sweet and genuine, and I'm at a place in life where that speaks to me.  Oh, and the peace.  I like the peace.  Even Edison sat with his hands folded!

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
