Fair, Part Duo

This is the 3rd year that Cassia, Edison, and Zade have been to the fair and the 2nd year for Soren and Tobias.  I love these repeat family adventures because they give us a family bond and identity, a "we".  We go to the fair every year.  We.  I do remember the fair two years ago when all my foster children were petrified of all the animals, big and small.  Here's a quote I found in my blog about the fair in 2012:

"We enjoyed a field trip to the Southern New Mexico State Fair.  My three toddlers were all petrified of all the animals, begging to be held the whole time.  It's tough enough pushing a triple stroller around but even tougher when you also have to carry kids who are sure that the plump piggie is going to eat them and don't feel said stroller offers enough protection.  It was still a really fun day and a tradition that we love.  We got to hang out with friends and ran into three Las Cruces homeschooling family friends while we were there."

I wouldn't call the outing with all the kids (with a gimpy Jon left at home) easy, exactly, but it was so much easier than it was two years ago!  My kids are growing up and loved most of the animals.  We only push a double stroller these days, with Edison taking breaks from walking and joining Roo now and then.

This is Zade's scared face because he is still not a fan of the giant turkeys.  It was funny to see him backing as far away from the turkeys as possible without realizing that he was backing right toward another row of giant turkeys.

Cassia was not a fan of farm animal smells.

This rabbit belonged to someone from our homeschool family.  He plays dead when he is on his back and looks just like a giant stuffed animal.  Shoot me now.  I'm actually thinking that it might be fun for our crew to show rabbits in the fair.  Please talk me out of it before it is too late!

There was a bear show.  Last year was a shark show, but I told the kids they wouldn't have sharks again.  They were guessing that it would be a squid show instead.  I think bears are a little more entertaining.

I need one of these!  It would be a fun way to drive to church.

Here is Basia posing with her winning artwork, "Night in Paris" and "Starry Night Over the Franklins."

We ate our favorite quesadillas, tasted some old fashioned soda, and had funnel cake in Jon's honor.  Roo tried his first funnel cake, and I'm pretty sure he will be in line for more next year.

I miss this so much! I wish we could have gone with you! I remember how scared the kids were a few years ago. They have all grown so much! Time flies!

It was so sad to not hang out with your family at the fair this year! It was tradition!

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
