Brishen was Mr. Pumblechook in the Great Expectations excerpt play, and Basia was Sarah Pocket.
Basia was the sassy angel for the Reason for the Season play.
I was only able to secure one babysitter that night, so half of the little ones had to come with me. It was late. It had been a busy week. These kids were tired! I was hoping Roo would fall right to sleep, but it never happened. He was a mess. An awesome friend watched the program and came out in the hallway to take him any time she saw one of my kids was about to perform. Zade and Soren tried to sleep on the floor. They were so good!
Brishen's monologue was a long excerpt from The Raven by Poe. Oh, man, was I proud to be his mom!
Basia recited Life Doesn't Frighten Me At All by Maya Angelou. She was pretty frightened, despite the name. She said they were supposed to focus on a spot on the back wall, but she couldn't make herself look up at all until almost the end of it. She was adorable, and the crowd loved her, of course. I got some of hers on video, but, alas, it's too long to share here.
I actually talked Basia into drama class even though she really did not want to do it. It was pretty rough going at times. There were lots of tears when I tried to run lines with her. I finally gave up. She learned them on her own and did a really good job. She was so nervous, but that translated into being very proud of herself in the end. She says she wants to do it again.
Here's Brishen in the Shopping With Molly play. This was not his favorite role since he was a goofy husband guy. He did talk me into buying him an ugly Christmas sweater for the part, so it wasn't all bad.
Yes, Soren was sleeping like this!
Brishen and Basia were both in the Candy Shop skit. Jon had to make a shelf that was tall enough for Brishen to have trouble reaching the top even when on a step ladder. They probably should have cast someone shorter in that role, but it was pretty funny to have such a tall shelf! The crowd laughed a ton at Brishen's shaky old man depiction!
This week was too much for us. Too much! Part way through the week I would have sworn that we will never do drama again. The performance was great, though, and I loved seeing Basia's confidence boost. Brishen's years of drama was evident. It looks like we will be doing drama again after all. They are even trying to get Jon to write a play in the next month or so for the group to use. It looks like we are in for the long haul, and I don't mind a bit! (Well, I might mind when it's crunch week again, but...)
