They practiced for 6 weeks for 1 track meet.  That seemed strange at first, but it was actually sort of nice to have all the work end in one final big event and not take up all of our Saturdays for months.  Basia claims track is her favorite sport ever.  I found a city league team for her to join next year when I am (hopefully) more willing to commit most week nights, most Saturdays, and to go some long distances for meets (I think they go to Florida this year for nationals).

Basia ran the 200, the 800 relay, and the 1600 relay and also did the long jump.  She got first.  In every event.  The team got first.  Overall.  Yes, it was fun!

I actually cried on the way to the track meet.  I had to wait for a babysitter to watch some of my little ones, so I didn't make it right on time.  I told Jon to keep me posted on when the long jump was scheduled.  He let me know that it wasn't right away.  Whew!  I headed out and got another text right away that she was jumping at that second.  I can't tell you how much I wanted to see her jump.  It broke my heart to miss it.  A teammate's uncle took these pictures, so it feels like I did get to see her in a way.  He took amazing pictures, but I don't have the giant beautiful versions, yet, so these little ones are a bit blurry.  She jumped over 12 feet after having practiced the event a couple times at practice.  With some real coaching and time to work on her skills, look out world!

One of the coaches gave this moment as his favorite moment in all of the meet.  He said there was magic in the air and that even the judge showed expression.  A mom later told me that her high school daughter told her how far she had jumped, and her mom commented that it was great.  The girl then said that Basia, in elementary school, had jumped farther than she did.

OK enough mom bragging, already!  This is big for me though.  I want my girl to feel full of power and joy.  She recently had another kid at church make fun of her spelling and handwriting which was crushing to my otherwise confident girl, so I am so happy that she can feel like this once in a while!  God made her for this.
