The view from my desk. My desk is not a neat and tidy place. I have my coffee with me in the mornings if Asa hasn't stolen it. I work on budgets and menus and other household written tasks between the kids needing me for something. In other words, I hardly ever have a moment to work on budgets and menus and other household written tasks. My desk is a busy place!
I get a bin of toys out for the youngest three to enjoy while I'm trying to work with the older ones. Some days this works better than others. Messes are always made, though.
Most school mornings start with Bible time. The kids are supposed to grab their own Bible and read quietly while I read my own. I read once that family devotions are the most unholy time of the day, and I concur. Today the kids were amazingly quiet, but I now take away snack time from anyone who messes up Bible time. Edison is most often begging for Bible time to be over. Zade would rather play. Asa is being wild and crazy Asa, and the others may or may not read their Bibles depending on what the others are doing to distract. When I can actually get some reading done, it's lovely. When it all comes together like it did today, though, it warms my heart. I love that Asa knows where to get his Bible and will often spend at least a few minutes flipping through it before he starts flipping himself off the couch. We then gather for our Bible story, recitation of our Bible verses, and for the child of the day to choose a Christian song to hear before we go on to the rest of our school.
School is going really, really well. In fact it is going better than it has gone at any point since we started fostering. It feels really good to be in a good place with school again instead of always feeling like we are trying to catch up again.
Only in homeschool can you bring your nun-chucks to class with you!
