Today we went hiking to and around Aden Crater. It was a such a fun and different place to explore. It was only about a one-mile hike from our cars to the crater, and then we got to spend hours exploring. There was a lot of scrambling up and down piles of volcanic rock. There were beautiful views from the highest points, and small caves to explore near the lower point.
If you saw this and couldn't tell what was inside, would you want to enter? We did!!
Basia missed out on the first cave that Brishen and Jon explored, so she had to get into this one.
The first hole Jon and Brishen explored had a big opening to enter, but they had to slither out on their stomachs. Brishen said that he will never forget that experience for the rest of his life. Now that's a great way to spend a Saturday! There is no picture of that hole, since I am claustrophobic and want nothing to do with squeezing into places on my stomach.
This picture doesn't look like much, but that is my dad, mom, and kids at the top of the picture. Jon and I braved all those steep, loose rock formations to make it to the bottom of the crater. This is our view from the bottom, looking straight up. We did, unfortunately, have to also figure out how to climb those same steep, loose rock formations all the way back up. We got a few bloody knuckles, but we both enjoyed the challenge.
