Spring Break, Day 3

Basia started the day off a little roughly. When I got home from my walk, she was in her room. She had gotten upset about something and gone in there and closed the door. She then got out a notebook and a pen and wrote and wrote until she felt better. When I checked on her, she asked me to close the door again so she could write. Later in the day she asked for blank paper, and she drew picture after picture. She wrote words like "volcano, alien, Granddad, and Ken" to label some of them. It always amazes me (you'd think I would catch on by now) how much learning they do when you take time out from formal school. If I had told her that she HAD to do some writing, she never would have done so much. When she wasn't writing, she spent much of the day in her red cape and goggles being a super hero.

In addition to Brishen's usual play, computer time, reading, and a library visit, he was in charge of making lunch today. It's always interesting to find out what he wants to make. This time he chose biscuits and gravy with (fake) sausage. It all turned out great!

My parents did a great job of making sure we graduated with life skills. I'm hoping to do the same for my children. Brishen already is dreading the day he is in charge of his own laundry!

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
