We went to the Mayfair in Cloudcroft today. Many things are still the same, but more things are different. We ran into several people we knew from the olden days (almost all of Uncle Joe's family), and had such a nice, relaxing day as tourists to the mountain town. Here's our group. I was there, too, but someone has to take the picture.

Here is one thing that hasn't changed! We used to beg to paint a ceramic item at the Mayfair many years ago. The same booth is still in the same place with the same people running it. Now it was Basia's turn. She chose to paint two mice in a nut shell--aren't they always blue? Brishen feels he is a bit too old for such things.

Now here is one thing that has definitely changed! I told Basia that we were going to the town where I grew up and that she could play on the equipment where I used to play. I planned on taking a nice, sentimental picture of the moment. Instead I found every drop of old play equipment had been ripped out of the ground (without my permission) and replaced by lots of new, fancy equipment.

My children each got a marshmallow-shooting device at the Mayfair. They tested them out as soon as we got home. Jon was sure to get his turn, too. Very cool!

Leave it to Jon to get sunburned! It was a cold day (compared to Las Cruces, at least), and we kept fairly bundled up. Jon forgot to bring a jacket, so he froze and burned at the same time. I come from a long line of people who have very fair skin and burn easily. We are no contest for Jon. He can lather with sunscreen over and over again and still find a way to get burned.

Did anyone play horseshoes? My main memory of the Mayfair is when my friend Chris and I (around the age of 13) beat all the oldies at the horseshoe tournament and won like $300. That's my favorite memory of the Mayfair.
That's another change. They have no horseshoe tournament. Mom and Dad were prepared to win it all, too.
