The summer reading program at our library began today. We signed up and started reading. There was a newspaper photographer at the library, and he took lots of pictures of Basia and Brishen. We will see if they make it into Sunday's paper. He had us count how many books we were checking out because he couldn't believe the stacks (27 total--actually a rather modest number for us). The kids earn prizes for every two hours they read. Brishen has finished his first two hours and just started his bedtime reading a few minutes ago. He would have even more time clocked, but I won't let him count his assigned school reading. Basia has listened to an hour and 18 minutes so far. I don't expect it to take more than a week or two (a day or two for Brishen) to earn the grand prize tote bag for eight hours of summer reading.

You just gotta love FREE! We got a full set of encyclopedias over the weekend. Brishen was reading the "A" before we even got them out of the van. He now has it in bed with him for some fun reading tonight. Now I just need some more bookshelves and a spare room to act as a library!

Another fun part of summer is the free movie shown at the theater each Monday. We headed over there to get out of the heat this afternoon. We learned that a kiddie pack is just perfect for us to share--Basia wanted popcorn, Brishen wanted candy, and I wanted a drink.
