Level 5 Hike

Today we went on our most difficult hike so far, a level 5 out of 5 in our hike leader's ranking system. It was a 90 mile drive to the trailhead of Hillsboro Peak. From there we hiked somewhere between 8 and 9 miles total. Basia sat this one out, or more precisely, got to hang out with her beloved Aunt Saralyn. The rest of us, including my mom, enjoyed the mountain breeze, the pine smell, and the amazing sights of New Mexico.

When I see this picture, it really strikes me that I have seen similar pictures in Jon's childhood picture albums of Jon and his dad in the great outdoors. It also strikes me how much Brishen is growing up on us.

They are all enjoying the views.

Earlier in the week, my sister's kids were catching grasshoppers in their backyard. My sister blogged that they only needed to find a horny toad to make the summer like the ones we used to have. I caught this horny toad in their honor. He was a cute little guy.

Having my mom along made the day so much more special!

I love that we could see for miles and miles and miles.

This last picture is in honor of my dad. He loves (or is it hates???) saguaro cacti, so I thought this tree in the shape of one was meant just for him.

Awww, I'm so honored! If only I could have been there to see it with you. Not that I would have held it or anything. . .

What a great hike and I actually can move today! That is a bonus.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
