I wasn't going to do this today since it isn't exactly a typical day, but I realized there are probably more exceptions to "typical" than there are actual "typical" days. Here is what we did, boring detail after boring detail.
7:09--I got up. I usually get up between 5 and 6:15 so I can get a walk in before Jon leaves, but I was just not wanting to get out of bed today, so no walk. Instead I jumped on the trampoline for a while before the kids got up to alleviate some of the non-walking guilt.
7:30--I had a bowl of cereal. Basia got up and finished a craft she had started last night and then ate her own bowl of cereal.
8:00--I went outside to jump rope. again this isn't typical but I was trying to make up for not walking. Brishen got up and ate some waffles from the freezer. He is usually up closer to 7, so I'm guessing that he was reading late last night.
8:20--I quickly browsed through the newspaper while the kids got dressed. We then went on a walk through our neighborhood. I walked with Charlie the dog, Brishen rode his scooter (after discovering his bike tires were flat AGAIN), and Basia rode her bike.
9:00--Chores. Today was "Living Room" day on our chore list. Brishen dusted and wiped the walls and light switches. Basia tidied all her things in the area. I straightened, swept, put a load of laundry in the drier, paid bills, and did some touch up painting on a couple walls.
10:00--We picked up Jon after he dropped off a rental car he had taken out of town yesterday and brought him back to church. We went inside and took an inventory of school supplies that people have donated for our bi-lingual story time kids. We then went to K-mart for a new air pump for Brishen's bike tires.
11:00--Swim.
12:09--Lunch at home and then nap/silent reading time. This is a beautiful part of my day, when both kids are off to their rooms for at least an hour. I should use that time wisely to get things done around the house, but I usually do not. I take that time to sit and watch TV or read. Today I did the puzzles in the newspaper and started to watch a biography about John and Abigail Adams but didn't get very far before Brishen was up from his reading time.
1:45--Brishen started school. He worked on some math and then Latin. He had lots of math to get caught up on from previous days, so he interspersed it with other subjects now and then.
2:20--I made up some full meal muffins-- http://shmooedfood.blogspot.com/2007/02/full-meal-muffins.html to freeze and eat as desired. Then I made some mini peanut butter and jelly muffins from the cookbook by the same cook. They are healthy (no sugar, butter, oil) and will be good for snacks, meals, or on our upcoming camping trip.
2:50--Basia wakes up, so we run to the church to pick up Jon while the muffins are in the oven. We make it back just in time.
3:30--I did some writing and reading with Basia
4:00--Basia went back to her craft. Brishen was working on typing, and Jon was doing some reading.
4:20--I started working on supper: meatloaf (made with TSP, not meat), roasted purple potatoes, squash, and bananas. Jon and Basia were playing in her room, Brishen was working on some science experiments. I stopped what I was doing several times to help him figure out how to measure 2 grams of salt, which oil to use, what was significant about ice floating on water, etc., etc., etc.
5:00--Our air conditioner went out. Lovely.
5:15--Dinner time. The kids emptied the dishwasher again, and Jon reloaded it.
6:00--Jon went back to work for meetings. Brishen went back to his math, vowing not to get that behind again. He rarely has more than 3 or 4 hours of school, so his evenings are free. Basia watched and danced to the VBS video, and I looked through some homeschool catalogs that I haven't yet gotten to fully peruse.
6:15--I read to Basia, and then Brishen, Basia, and I played a very long game of UNO.
7:30--Brishen was off to his room to play, Basia played with her interlocking cubes and some plastic cups. I started this blog.
8:00--Basia's story and bed. Brishen is still playing in his room. As long as he does silent reading time, he now gets to stay up until 8:30.
