Our Morning

Yes, it was a strange morning in the Moore household. Jon's alarm clock rang early this morning, and he got up and prepared for a race. That's right. Jon got up for a race, and I did not. This weekend is The Whole Enchilada Fiesta in Las Cruces, and they had a 5K to go with it. Nowhere did they say that walkers are welcome, so I decided not to participate--there were lots of walkers so I will be there next year. Jon is watching out for nearby races on any day but Sunday (almost all races are on Sundays), and this one fit the bill. So I was there in the cheering section, and he got to wear the number.

For those of you who don't know why this is was a strange occurrence, I'll tell you. Jon is not an athlete. He has never enjoyed exercise or stuck with it for long. It is so awesome that he is now seeking out races and ways to keep motivated. We are all very impressed!
He looks scared before the race began. Next to him is a man who plays in the praise band with Jon. Jon's even getting others into races! Below is Jon at the finish line. He cut his time by several minutes from his last 5K earlier this month.

After the race the kids got to play for a while at our favorite wooden park while we waited for the parade to begin. Below is "Enchy," the mascot for the fiesta--he's an enchilada in case you couldn't tell (and who could). The parade was a lot better than we expected. We will definitely go again next year. All in all, it was a busy morning. I'll try to post later about the rest of our day.

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
