Brishen and Basia got to spend some time with their Grandmother today.
Brishen and Grandmother played games--I hear
Brishen beat her in
Stratego and 3D Connect Four. When Basia was asked what she wanted to do, she said that she wanted to sew. Thank goodness she was at Grandmother's house when she decided that! She and Grandmother first made a cape for the stuffed dog. They then made a cape for Basia and a cat purse in honor of Tom in Tom and Jerry. When Basia got home, she complained that she doesn't have any needles of her own. She really wants to do some more sewing.

Jon spent the morning preparing a recipe for a Pumpkin Festival recipe contest. He made vegan pumpkin pie brownies. Since they are vegan, there is no butter, no eggs, and no dairy. That means they are pretty doggone healthy as far as pumpkin pie/brownies go. They turned out really well. Unfortunately they won't be winning any prizes because we realized that the drop-off time for the contest was at noon, and we figured that out at 1:30pm. That just means we get to enjoy them ourselves.

There is also a pumpkin carving contest.
Brishen, Basia, and Jon all set to work on their pumpkins this afternoon. If they get them finished in time, they will be dropped off in the morning. We did double (triple) check the drop-off time on this one.

Add some floor mopping in a house full of tile, some lawn mowing, buying a much-needed new vacuum, and basketball practice where I got to help coach, including toughing it out in a scrimmage where another mom and I played against the boys even though I was not wearing any socks or the right kind of shoes, and you have one busy day!

Did you get pictures of the finished pumpkins? I wanna see! I saw carvable fake pumpkins at Hobby Lobby the other day. Too cool! That pumpkin pie dessert looks YUMMY!
Nope, I'm a dope and forgot to get pictures of the finished pumpkins. We are going to the festival tomorrow, so maybe they will still be in decent enough shape to photograph there. Jon won first in the adult division with his, and Basia won second in the under 12 division.
