Is it Really Time?

How can it be? 5th grade is the year when public schools all over the land (at least in my day) had those important "talks" with the girls in one room and the boys in another room. Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately??), Brishen asked all about that stuff after reading an encyclopedia several years ago, so we've already had that talk.

What I recently realized is that, during those talks, they also tell kids that it is time to start using deoderant.

No, I'm not ready for him to start using deoderant. It seems so...teenagerish. He doesn't seem to need it yet, but I just read an article that gave the advice to have your kids start using deoderant before they actually need it. I'm not sure if that saves you from having to tell your kid that he stinks or if it saves you from having to smell that smell.

Is 5th grade that time? Must I shell out an extra four bucks--I can't believe deoderant now costs four or more bucks--? Will he prefer the gel? Sport scent? Are his underarms even big enough for those big, manly sticks? Do they make a dainty, teen version for boys? At least I have a boy. The "training bra" section of stores really freaks me out.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
