Holy Land Trip, Day 6

Garden of Gethsemane


This giant olive tree is thought to have been in the garden 2000 years ago when Jesus was here.



Above is the church that was built in the garden. Below is the stone inside the church where tradition has it that Jesus agonized while in the Garden of Gethsemane.


These are the Golden Gates to Jerusalem, as seen from the Garden of Gethsemane. There are needle slits in the gates where visitors would enter. Camels loaded down with stuff would have had a difficult time entering, having to unload and bend down before fitting through the needle slits. Some say that the Bible verse saying, "It is easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the gates of Heaven," was talking about these gates and not an actual needle.
