Homeschool Talent Show

Brishen recited Marc Antony's speech from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar this year for our annual talent show. It was held at our church, and you know that I have no idea how to get my camera to take a decent picture in the sanctuary. Brishen did a great job. I was most impressed that you could tell that he really understood everything he was saying, which is more than some adults can say about Shakespeare, myself often included.

Yep, I forced her. Basia really hates to be in front of an audience and has opted out of the talent show each year. At the end of the show, when all the participants go on stage to bow, she is always so sad that she is not one of them, so I decided to force her to participate this one time to see if she could handle it and was happy to be a participant.
She recited "Animal Crackers" by Christopher Morley, which is a fairly long poem, especially for someone her age. She was miserable. She held tight to me and would not look at the audience. But guess what? She recited every. single. word. of the poem! She never broke out into a wail, even when it was done. If you know Basia, especially these days, that is saying a lot!

And you know what? She was SO VERY PROUD to be on the stage after the show with all the other kids. The pride on her face was exactly what I had hoped to see! She did it!

Good job, Basia!! Way to overcome your fear!! I have one of those children, too.

I JUST figured out how to take pictures in an auditorium setting. If your camera has an AV mode, put it on that, and turn your flash off. It will draw the light from it's surroundings, and your picture comes out decently. You just have to make sure your hand is VERY stable, or it turns out blurry. Hope this might help.
