I miss my blog. I miss thinking of something to say and being able to say it right then. I miss having this outlet for my thoughts and this avenue for sharing what is going on.
We officially have no internet until after we move because I got so sick of being on the phone with Qwest, having tech after tech come over, and going through it all again a couple days later. Their solution was for me to pay more money to upgrade, and it seemed pretty dumb to upgrade a couple weeks before moving, so I got rid of Qwest (forever!). Their customer service personnel are really nice, but no one ever solved anything.
Life without internet is just plain annoying. I'm am truly a spoiled westerner. I am able to get online at the church almost every day, but it's just not the same as being able to check on something or email someone as soon as you think of it.
Right now I have Jon's laptop at Starbucks for some blissful time alone out of the house and online. Heaven!
What's going on in our life? I'm glad you asked.
1. Brishen had robotics camp at NMSU, put on by NASA and the Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Aeronautics Academy for the last two weeks. It turned out to be a middle school immersion experience. He sat at a table on the first day with a group of kids who tried to out-cuss each other, who wrote horrible notes on their papers, and who spent more of their time texting and playing solitaire on their phones than they did doing the robotics work.
Brishen said he was quite shocked until he realized that they are all middle schoolers, since I signed him up with those just finishing 6th grade. He got along best with the other homeschoolers. If I am raising a homeschooling weirdo, that's great, especially if the cussing, texting, trying-so-hard-to-fit-in is "normal."
2. Basia has a scary snaggle tooth. I wish I could post a picture. She once had such pretty, straight teeth. Once those top teeth got loose, they seemed to change every day. They started sticking out farther and farther. After one of the top teeth fell out, the one that is left decided to migrate to the middle of her mouth and get about as croooked as you can get. It is quite a sight. I really don't remember this happening with Brishen's teeth. I can't wait for her to lose that tooth. I'm a little worried about what those new, big teeth will look like, though..
3. On the tooth front, Brishen went to the dentist this week and found out that he only has one baby tooth left. Of course, he made sure he had that one out of his mouth within a day. He is no longer a baby, I guess, now that his mouth is baby-tooth free.
4. Tomorrow will be church. Sundays are hard days right now. Jon did his last communion service for Morning Star last Sunday, and there were lots of tears from lots of people. Even on a normal Sunday these days I sit in my seat, happy as can be, and then a friend or a long-time Morning Star member walks in, and it hits me hard. What will life be like when I don't see these people every week? Who will I see? How long will it take to form relationships at St. Mark's? Who will walk my nephew up the hill to say, "hi!" to the basketball hoops? Who will love my children as my children are now loved?
Honestly, I am ready for the big day to come, to survive the good-byes, and to take that leap of faith. The highs and lows that come with the waiting and wondering are getting old.
5. We are well fed these days! I can't even tell you how spoiled we are at Morning Star, but one way we are being spoiled is by having church members provide us with meals for our last two weeks here. That started yesterday. Chili, chips and crackers, a wonderful salad, and a pineapple upside down cake were brought to our door. Lentil soup, crackers, cold rice salad, and a warm apple pie were delivered today. I am wondering how much I will weigh by the end of two weeks, but I will enjoy every bite, knowing the love that it represents, and the scale will be packed.
6. We get the keys to our new house on Tuesday, and I'm excited. We looked at a lot of houses on the day we chose this house and paid the deposit, so I don't remember a lot of little details about the house. I am looking forward to being inside the house again and looking forward to showing it to the kids. Here are some of the details I look forward to knowing: what color are the walls in my bedroom? Is there a built-in microwave? What color are the bathrooms? Is Jon crazy wanting to swap the dining room and the sitting room? What are the closets like in the kids' rooms? Which kitten will we be getting along with the house? Is it male or female--the naming of the kitten is a big topic in our house these days. We wanted to chose a name from ancient history or mythology, but we have packed all of the homeschooling books that would give us ideas, so we have a possible boy kitty's name but no girl kitty's name.
Can you tell I've been wanting to blog? I can't shut up now that I have started. It's time to sign off, not knowing when or if I'll be able to blog again for a while. Good-bye, my lovely blog. Oh, and for anyone who actually reads this blog, sorry for the long rambling. Just remember, I am responsible for the rambling, but it's your fault for actually reading it!
