I received the best email today. This is the line that warms my heart in big ways: "I will notify the orphanage that Malco should begin school in December."
We got on the website http://www.onesmallstepfund.org/ after I heard rave recommendations about it. I let Brishen choose one of the children for us to sponsor, and he chose Malco. We are now sending $50 per month so that Malco can eat, be clothed, and go to school. How amazing it is to think that a real boy named Malco will get pulled aside one day soon and be told that he gets to start school in a couple weeks.
Now Basia has two requests: 1. She wants to adopt Malco into our family. 2. She wants to choose another child to sponsor.
All I can say is that this is the sort of thing I want my family to be thinking about over this holiday season--how we can make real differences for others. I much prefer those two requests of Basia's than the usual requests for the latest gadgets and toys. Of course, she wants the latest gadgets and toys, too, but each time we turn our focus away from our own wants to the true needs of others, something good is happening in the world.
