The End of Soccer

Yesterday was Basia's last soccer game--maybe ever.  She started out really excited for the season and enjoying it, but, within a couple weeks, she got annoyed that she had to miss taekwondo for her soccer games.  She also lost interest in the game, overall.  I really think that she is now so used to the extreme structure of taekwondo, and the free-for-all that is "developmental soccer" seemed pointless to her.  I've been wanting to sign her up for soccer for years because I was sure she would love it.  Now I know.
I personally think that giving kids trophies and diplomas for every little accomplishment is a little ridiculous, but I won't get going on that topic.  Basia was very happy to get a trophy and will doubtless treasure it forever.  This picture cracks me up because I am used to looking at the other teams and their tiny, cute, itty-bitty players.  Seeing Basia's team together shows me that Basia is the tiny, cute, itty-bitty player on the Scorpions.  I've known her since she was 6-pounds tiny, so she seems big and grown-up to me now.

Tell Basia that if there was anything about soccer she loved, to try it again when she gets a little older. It actually does have some structure eventually. Everyone has a specific position on the field, so there aren't a bunch of kids huddled around the ball. It's actually a lot of fun to watch older kids play!

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
