No Such Thing As Simple

We are making some simple whole wheat soft pretzels.  Simple.  Did I mention simple?  The goal is to pinch off a piece of the dough, roll it into a long snake, and then form some sort of pretzel shape or letter out of it.  I gave that instruction to my kids and walked away.  When I came back, I noticed that my kids are doing anything but making simple easy shapes.  Basia made that creature above, and Brishen did a guy and a variety of other things.  I can't break the news to them that all the thin, little legs are going to be burning to a crisp while the plump middles cook all the way through.  Now Basia just came to show me that she spelled out, "LOVE BASIA" with pretzel dough.  I'll have to put that on a separate pan to make sure it at least turns out OK.

I'm wondering why I am blogging so much all of a sudden, including fairly silly, pointless posts like this one.  I think I'm having a good weekend but am a little lonely (not in a bad way, just a peaceful way), and blogging seems better than talking to myself.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
