Things My Kids Said...

...to the social worker during our homestudy:

"History," was what Brishen answered as his favorite subject in school.  He listed grammar is his least favorite subject because he feels there is just nothing too interesting about learning about words.

"History," was what Basia answered as her least favorite subject in school.  The girl actually enjoys history, so I think this was a case of saying the opposite of her brother.  If we someday have five kids, will they ALL have to be opposite of each other, or will alliances form?  She claimed math as her favorite subject.

"No!" they immediately and emphatically exclaimed when asked if they are spanked.  They absolutely are not spanked, but it sounded like they had been coached and was not convincing to my ears.  Hopefully he could tell from other answers that they were telling the truth.  They were also asked if they are locked outside, put in the garage, or made to do chores when they are in trouble.  Um, no!

"A boy," was the gender of sibling Brishen requested.

"A girl," was the gender of sibling that Basia requested.

"Good luck with that," replied the social worker.  (Basia later amended her request to "one of each")

"I will have to help watch him," was what Brishen felt would be the toughest thing about having a new sibling.

"It will take him a long time to learn things," was Basia's fear.

I told the kids to be totally honest about everything, and when they were asked if either of their parents ever say bad words, they were honest!  One parent has decided to watch his or her mouth during frustrating situations a little better in the future.

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
