Brishen, Today

Here are some random facts about my dear son:

--I am giving him ice cream each night for his "medicine" after seeing him for the first time in a LONG time without his shirt on.  It was a picture straight out of starvation/malnutrition poster (AKA you're a bad mom poster).  He has absolutely NO meat on his bones, and it is a frightening sight.  I checked his body mass index and found that, indeed, he is underweight at 4% BMI.  He exercises a lot these days, and I don't think our healthy vegetarian diet has been giving him enough calories.  He's not as able to sneak in extra yummy (fattening) stuff as I am, I guess.  I've been told to sneak flax seed and coconut oil into everything he eats, so that will be my next step.

--Speaking of exercise, Brishen is a Tae Kwon Do junkie!  He goes 5 days a week, and only misses Thursdays because of confirmation.

--Also speaking of exercise, Brishen really had his heart set on doing a marathon (The Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon, to be exact) when he was 12 years old.  I tried to talk him into waiting until next year, but he had set a personal goal to do it THIS year.  That means I will also be doing it again this year.  I had other plans (sleep and such), but it will be awesome to be part of such a big deal in his life.  Some people have "marathon" on their bucket list forever, and he's hoping to cross that one off next week.

--Also speaking of exercise, Brishen was invited to join a brand new homeschool football team.  He declined.  He's happy to kick others in the head in TKD, but he doesn't want to push people down, I suppose.

--Brishen got to be part of the decision-making process as to what the future of his education will be.  Again, he has set a pretty steep goal, and he is excited to do some new, big things in junior high and high school.

--Seriously, this child really continues to be such a sweet, kind, and fun-to-be-around kid.  He has moments of hormones showing through now and then, but they are still rare.  I am trying to cherish my time with him because I know the day is coming when he pulls further and further away from me as he becomes his own man.  I feel so lucky to have so much time with him and to be such a big part of all he does.  He asked me a couple questions about college last week, and I see that he is thinking big thoughts and growing.  I am so proud of him and all he is becoming!

--There are no pictures to accompany this because he is the biggest pain-in-the-rear about posing for me.  Seriously!

I am so proud of him too! He is such a beautiful person. Your relationship will change as he grows up but you will not believe how wonderful it is. Each stage is different but it just keeps getting better and better. Mom

Brishen's Birthday, Too

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
