Whew! A Busy Weekend!

Jon and the kids went to Las Cruces on Friday to shovel gravel off the roof of our house there, in preparation for a shiny new roof.  They spent hours and hours and now despise anyone who thinks gravel on a roof is a good idea.  I stayed home to wait for the cable guy.  Yep, that's right.  After years of being a family without cable, I kept my promise and ordered cable the exact day that we became debt-free.  The others had no idea that the cable guy would be coming when they were gone.  It was hard to tear our eyes away from the screen when they got home (Food Network, we love you!).

Saturday morning started with a bang, and things never slowed down.  After my 5:30am boot camp (she lets us sleep an extra 15 minutes on Saturdays), it was time to Change the World.  Jon and the kids dressed up and joined 200 other people from our church to help out those who live in El Segundo Barrio, one of the 3 poorest zip codes in the U.S., which happens to be right in our city.  I couldn't join them because I had a 6-hour tutor training for a month-long reading camp that our church is offering this summer.

After doing their part to Change the World, Jon and the kids went up to Las Cruces to celebrate my cousin, Jeremy's, graduation from high school.  Jeremey is Basia's hero in life (one of many).  Jon and I used to take him to the park and to get ice cream on Sunday afternoons when we were just dating, and now he's all grown up.

I don't have picture proof, but we attended an End of the World/30th Birthday Party (same difference, right?) of a friend after the graduation party.

Late night number 2.

Sunday led us back to Las Cruces for the bell choir concert.  Jon participated in theis concert for years when he was growing up.  Brishen participated in this concert for years as an elementary student.  I participated in this concert last year.  This year we went to watch my mom, and all those other people we know and love, play.  It was the first time since leaving our former church that I got to see so many of the people we left behind, and it was really great!

We were in Sacramento on Brishen's birthday, but we made it home to celebrate the next day.  He wanted green chile potato corn chowder...
